Monthly High Points: June (Including Snippets of My Novel!)

Monthly High Points

WritingI have only written a couple thousand this month, but I know I’m getting so so so close to the ending. So, do you want to know a bit about it? Well here is a short teaser of what my novel is about:

And this is about my main character, Anar:

A few sentences from my novel:

So? What do you think? Are you interested in it? Tell me your thoughts!

I’ve come up with a new story to start with Camp NaNoWriMo which is starting this July. I have a goal of 50,000 words! I hope that I can do it and maybe more, but I’m not sure. I may just be going crazy. 😛

Reading

I didn’t get to many books this month, but I read some good ones.

  1. Rogue (The Paladin Prophecy: Book 3) by Mark Frost
  2. The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: Book 1) by Rick Riordan
  3. A Time to Die (Out of Time Series: Book 1) by Nadine Brandes
  4. The Rise of Aredor (The Rise of Aredor: Book 1) by Claire M. Banschbach
  5. The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive: Book 1) by Brandon Sanderson
  6. House of Hades (The Heroes of Olympus: Book 4) by Rick Riordan
  7. Unstrung (Unwind Dystology: Book 1.5) by Neal Shusterman
  8. Hawkeye, Volume 1: My Life as a Weapon by Matt Fraction
  9. The Valley of Unrest by Edgar Allan Poe

I also read the Bible book The Song of Songs.

Rogue: It was a really disappointing ending. So many things were left undone.

The Sword of Summer: Really really good! I think this will be a better series than The Kane Chronicles!!!

A Time to Die: *screams like crazy* THIS WAS AMAZING! It was so different and beautiful.

The Rise of Aredor: I was not expecting to like this so much, but I did! It has this exciting and fun Robin Hood feel.

The Way of Kings: WHAT???!!!!! NO WAY! This book is probably the reason I didn’t get to as many books this month because it was like 1,200 pages LONG! But it was so good, and I can’t wait to get to the next one on my shelf. It is EPIC FANTASY!

House of Hades: This was good, but it had some inappropriate stuff (like one character having homosexual feels towards another) that I wasn’t fond of.

Unstrung: This was great, but it didn’t tie up all the loose ends of Lev’s story and it was too short. I MUST HAVE MORE!!!

Hawkeye, Volume 1: My Life as a Weapon: Awesome. It was a great comic that portrayed Hawkeye really well. But there was some inappropriate things.

I am currently reading:

  • One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
  • The Wildcat of Braeton (The Rise of Aredor: Book 2) by Claire M. Banschbach

One Thousand Gifts: I did not read any this month.

The Wildcat of Braeton: SO GOOD, OKAY?

Music

So…Aimee and Katie got me interested in the Hamilton (Broadway musical). So I listened to it on Spotify and was immediately hooked. I will warn you that there is little bit of language in almost every song. And some sexual stuff in a song or two. But besides that, I absolutely love it so much. I’m addicted.

And of course I’m listening to Twenty One Pilots. You didn’t think I wouldn’t mention it for once, did you? THEY HAVE A NEW SONG AND I MUST’VE LISTENED TO IT AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN A ROW!!! I LOVE IT!OtherThings

I finished the tv show Firefly. What a fun show! I can’t believe that it got cancelled after only the first season. It’s so sad.

But it was nice to watch the movie Serenity and see all the characters from Firefly.

Yep. That pretty much sums up the show and the movie.

Monthly High Points

WritingI didn’t really write this month. I probably did about five hundred words total. I am hoping to get much more do this month.

Reading

I read some fanatic books this month.

  1. The Scarlet Pimpernel (The Scarlet Pimpernel: Book 1) by Emmuska Orczy
  2. Stars Above (The Lunar Chronicles: Book 4.5) by Marissa Meyer
  3. The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus: Book 2) by Rick Riordan
  4. The Mark of Athena (The Heroes of Olympus: Book 3) by Rick Riordan
  5. Defy (The Blades of Acktar: Book 3) by Tricia Mingerink
  6. Unwind (Unwind Dystology: Book 1) by Neal Shusterman
  7. Judge (Books of the Infinite: Book 2) by R.J. Larson
  8. The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy: Book 1) by Marie Rutkoski
  9. King (Books of the Infinite: Book 3) by R.J. Larson
  10. The Paladin Prophecy (The Paladin Prophecy: Book 1) by Mark Frost
  11. The Conqueror Worm by Edgar Allan Poe
  12. Alliance (The Paladin Prophecy: Book 2) by Mark Frost
  13. A Dream within a Dream by Edgar Allan Poe

I also read the Bible book Ephesians.

The Scarlet Pimpernel: This is probably one of the best classics I’ve read. The adventure was exciting. The romance was so romantic. I love romance set in an older time period.

Stars Above: I loved all the stories. But ‘The Princess and the Guard’ and ‘Something Old, Something New’ were my favorites! I just ship Jacin and Winter so much! Along with Kai and Cinder! I’m so sad the series is over.

The Son of Neptune: Finally! I’m reading about Percy again! This was fun and intense.

The Mark of Athena: Maybe even better than the one before it? I’m not sure. They were both great. But it was so cool to see Annabeth’s point of view for the first time!

Defy: *runs around screaming and squealing* THIS WAS SO SO SO AMAZING! Agh! The torture!

Unwind: This is one of those books that you keep thinking about long after you’ve read it. And the more you think about it, the more you like it. It was unique and twisted, but very good.

Judge: This was better than the first, but probably only because it had more of Kien.

The Winner’s Curse: This is now one of my new favorites. I love the style of writing. There were so many good quotes.

King: This was good, but I didn’t think it was that good of a conclusion. It was definitely a bit rushed at the beginning too.

The Paladin Prophecy: For a reread it was as good as the first time. What a adventure!

Alliance: Totally not as good as the first one. It was choppy and didn’t flow well.

I’m currently reading:

  • One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
  • Rogue (The Paladin Prophecy: Book 3) by Mark Frost

I’m also reading the Bible book Philippians.

One Thousand Gifts: I’ve read one chapter and I got to say that the writing is amazing. It is so poetic.

Rogue: This is interesting. I’m hoping that it is better than book two.

Music

Of course I’m listening to Twenty One Pilots. It is addicting. I’m trying to memorize all the rapping parts of all the songs.

I’ve also repeatedly played Lost Boy by Ruth B and Dead Hearts by Stars. They are catchy.

OtherThings
May 12th I went and saw Captain America: Civil War. I survived. I won’t give any spoilers, but what a great and heartbreaking movie. I loved how it ended, though I now want the next one so badly! Help!

LOST is turning out to be one of my favorite shows e.v.e.r. I love that there are so many characters and they’re all so fascinating and intriguing. Gah! It is creepy and scary, but I like it that way. It is different from other things I’m watching.

On May 29th I started Downton Abbey. Hmmm… It is interesting, but I have already seen some inappropriate stuff and I’m only on the third episode.

Have any of you seen any spaghetti westerns? I watched two this month: Joe Kidd and High Plains Drifter. I am loving them! They are so fun! The music, the long instances of silence, the gunfights, the land, it is all so neat.

I also saw this movie called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. That was interesting, really interesting. I watched it in Chinese with English subtitles. And what a strange ending.

Monthly High Points: February

Monthly High PointsWriting…

No writing was done at all this month. Ugh…

Reading!

I read a good amount of books this month.

  1. The Finest Hours by Michael Tougias and Casey Sherman
  2. Miracle in the Hills by Mary T. Martin Sloop
  3. Siren’s Fury (The Storm Siren Trilogy: Book 2) by Mary Weber
  4. Counted Worthy by Leah E. Good
  5. Red Queen (Red Queen Series: Book 1) by Victoria Aveyard
  6. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  7. Cress (The Lunar Chronicles: Book 3) by Marissa Meyer
  8. Fairest: Levana’s Story (The Lunar Chronicles: Book 3.5) by Marissa Meyer
  9. Thunder (Stone Braid Chronicles: Book 1) by Bonnie S. Calhoun
  10. The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness by Timothy Keller
  11. Season of Fire (The Remnants: Book 2) by Lisa Tawn Bergren

The Finest Hours: This was great, but at times it almost felt like a history book.

Miracles in the HillsThis was interesting and funny at points.

Siren’s Fury: I was reading this instead of watching the Super Bowl! I did start out reading while watching the TV but the TV just got distracting so I went to my room. It was intense.

Counted Worthy: This made my eyes watery. I liked it way more than I expected.

Red Queen: I think this was the best book I read this month, but I’m not sure. That plot twist though! I wasn’t expecting that at all.

To Kill a Mockingbird: The author died during the time I was reading this. Coincidence? i think not. It was amazing.

Cress: I loved it! Cress and Thorne are adorable together!

Fairest: Levana’s Story: Creepy. Woah… I can’t believe some of the stuff she did.

Thunder: Pretty good. There were some writing inconsistencies though.

The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness: A short and easy read with some very good points.

Season of Fire: Very good and a bit stressful, but there was something that didn’t catch me like the first one.

I’m currently reading:

  • One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
  • Winter (The Lunar Chronicles: Book 4) by Marissa Meyer

One Thousand Gifts: I haven’t read any this month.

Winter: I love Jacin and Winter! He is so protective and she is so strange.

Music!

I’m still listening to Twenty One Pilots like it is going out of style. I’ve never been so addicted to one artist (and I think I got at least one of my family members to really like it). Go listen to them right now!

Other Things!

I started watching When Calls the Heart on February 22nd and I don’t think I’ve ever squealed and grinned during a show before this one. I’m not usually into this type of show but it got me hooked. I love it and I already finished season two on March 3rd.

Schoolwork has been pretty good this month. But…it’s school, so I’m excited for this summer.

I saw The Finest Hours movie and it was really intense and neat. Those waves… It is such an amazing true story. They did change it from the book, of course.

So what have you been up to? Anything you’re excited about for this month? I’d love to hear from you and chat a bit.

Infinity Dreams Award

So I got tagged by Shantelle Mary Hannu to do the Infinity Dreams Award! Thanks, Shantelle!

Tell us eleven facts about yourself.

  1. I play the piano.
  2. I know how to knit.
  3. I did ballet from age four to ten.
  4. I do not have a phone.
  5. Over two years ago I just about hated writing. *gasp* I know. Now I’m blogging and have written 50,000 words for a novel.
  6. I love to swim (breaststroke is my favorite).
  7. History is my favorite school subject.
  8. I love almost anything that includes some sort of bread.
  9. I like to bake (mostly breads and desserts).
  10. I’m a Whovian (the Tenth Doctor is my favorite).
  11. Many of my shirts are men’s t-shirts. That’s because they have all the cool MARVEL, STAR WARS, Doctor Who, etc. t-shirts.

Answer the eleven questions.

How many books do you hope to read this year?

I have set my Goodreads status for 150 books this year. But who knows if I’ll get that far…

What’s your favorite song?

Ooh, that’s hard. Recently, I have loved Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots and The Parting Glass by The High Kings.

What’s your least favorite holiday?

Halloween. Some of the history on the origins of Halloween are really just wrong. Many churches have uplifted the holiday and done some good through it, which is very nice.

Why do you blog?

To share my faith and tell people about all the wonderful books out there that people need to read! So go check out some of my book reviews and read my favorites. You won’t regret it!

Favorite dessert?

Ice cream. Mint, cookie dough, or cake batter flavored.

One movie coming out in 2016 you want to watch?

Captain America: Civil War. Oh my goodness. I’ve heard what happens to Captain America in the comics on the Civil War…I hope that the movie doesn’t follow it!

Some books set for 2016 releases you want to read?

  1. Samara’s Peril by Jaye L. Knight
  2. Siren’s Song by Mary Weber
  3. Rise of the Wolf by Jennifer A. Nielsen
  4. Lady Dragon, Tela Du by Kendra E. Ardnek

This is all that I can think of for now. But I’m so excited for all of them!

What historical era intrigues you most?

Ancient Greek and Roman times. I love all the history behind it. The gladiators are really interesting.

Where would you love to visit?

I’ve always wanted to go to Australia and New Zealand. To go see the waterfalls, kangaroos, and koalas. Besides that, New Zealand is where The Lord of the Rings was filmed. So…win, win!

Some of your favorite blogs?

Amanda at Scattered Journal Pages

Katie at A Writer’s Faith

Hope at Stitches of Freedom

I follow a lot of other amazing blogs, but I think that these are my top three.

What things inspire you to write/blog?

I think it is just so neat to see how just letters put together can create something amazing. All my blogging friends (especially you, Amanda, who helped me start a blog in the first place) are great inspirations. Also, there all these great homeschool authors (you know who you are) that I’ve met by way of Goodreads or blogs have really given me the courage to start writing my own novel.

Guidelines:

  • Use the Infinity Dreams Award picture
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you
  • Tell us 11 facts about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions
  • Tag 11 bloggers

Tagged:

To those I didn’t tag and you want to do it, go ahead and consider yourself tagged. Leave a link to your post in the comments!

Now, here are your eleven questions:

What do you like about blogging?

What is your favorite hobby?

What is your favorite genre of books that you like to read?

What is your favorite movie?

What is your favorite TV show?

Is there anything that you “fangurl” about? If so, what?

Do you have a favorite music artist that you listen to about every song of theirs? If so, who?

Is there anything new that you’re hoping to do this year?

What do you hope to be when you are “grown-up”?

What is your favorite way to travel?

If you had a TARDIS (time machine/spaceship), where would you go?

I hoped that you liked this post! Tell me what you think! Do we have anything in common?

Monthly High Points: December

ahrWriting…

So…it is a bit sad to say, but I haven’t written one more word for that novel I started since November. Not. One. Single. Word. But hey, I’ve never written that much in my life. I needed a break.

I will strive to get to some writing this month, just at a slower pace. I really want to finish writing the novel so that I can go back and make some changes. I have a few ideas for some drastic changes. I mean, really drastic. Like I’m going to rewrite the story in a whole, new way! We’ll see how it goes.

Reading!!!

So I didn’t get to any writing (unless you count my schoolwork). But I got to a bunch of reading! So that was fabulous!!! Here are the books I read this month:

  1. Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
  2. The Sword of Shannara (The Shannara Trilogy: Book 1) by Terry Brooks
  3. Noble Imposter (The Cantral Chronicles: Book 2) by Amanda L. Davis
  4. Viral Execution (The Cantral Chronicles: Book 3) by Amanda L. Davis
  5. Co. Aytch by Samuel Rush Watkins
  6. Humorous Stories and Sketches by Mark Twain
  7. The Negotiator (The O’Malley Series: Book 1) by Dee Henderson
  8. Falling Kingdoms (A Falling Kingdoms Novel: Book 1) by Morgan Rhodes
  9. Water Princess, Fire Prince (The Rizkaland Legends: Book 1)
  10. Mark of the Thief (Mark of the Thief: Book 1) by Jennifer A. Nielsen
  11. Storm Siren (The Storm Siren Trilogy: Book 1) by Mary Weber
  12. A Dream Not Imagined by Shantelle Mary Hannu

Uncle Tom’s Cabin: Such a interesting and moving book. It was great to reread it.

The Sword of Shannara: Seriously. Just go read it. If you like The Lord of the Rings go read it now! If you like any sort of fantasy, read it! Click here for my review. It was amazing.

Noble Imposter: Good and very interesting. But I just wasn’t into it.

Viral Execution: Better than any of the others in this trilogy, but I still didn’t get into it sadly. I just don’t think that this trilogy was for me. But I think many people would love this!

Co. Aytch: This was an amazing true account of a Confederate soldier who served throughout the Civil War. I wouldn’t let kids read this for it was very bloody, but it was so good.

Humorous Stories and Sketches: This was quite funny, though I think there was some humor that I didn’t get. It also has some life lessons in it.

The Negotiator: Really cool adult mystery. I really enjoyed this. So much suspense and thrilling moments.

Falling Kingdoms: Not good in my opinion. But I still love that cover.

Water Princess, Fire Prince: So nice to reread this. Love it!

Mark of the Thief: Oh my goodness! Ancient Rome! Magic! Yes!!! *ahem* I really loved this! I need the next one!

Storm Siren: Another absolutely awesome book!!! It has a heart stopping cliffhanger too! *jaw drops* I. Did. Not. See. That. Coming.

A Dream Not Imagined: A sweet Cinderella retelling for all ages with quite a plot twist.

Many of these I have reviews for and as soon as I have a day available I will post it.

So I’m currently reading:

  • One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
  • Ashburn (I.C.E. Agency Series: Book 1) by Julia Erickson

One Thousand Gifts: Truly a great book about living life to the fullest.

Ashburn: I actually already finished this, but that happened in January and this is a post for what I was doing in December. Anyways, it is a great secret-agent-on-a-mission book.

As you can see, I got a lot of books read. It was fantastic!

Other Things…

In the days before Christmas, I scrambled to get halfway through all my schoolwork. I started school in October because of moving an ordering school stuff (which takes awhile to come). So I was did work on the weekends if I found the time (outside of reading). And during the weekdays, some days I did double or triple the work. It was crazy, but I finished on the 23rd of December. Then took off the whole next week.

I went and saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the 17th and got all the Star Wars feels. I was so afraid that Star Wars would be ruined, but it was epic. I couldn’t stop thinking about the movie for awhile afterwards.

How was your Christmas??? I’d love to hear about it. Mine was great. I got many books (you can see that from the pictures). Also, I got a LEGO Doctor Who set. I haven’t built it yet, but it looks really wonderful. I’m a total Whovian, if you don’t already know.

Do you see those two books on top?! They’re each about 1,200 pages!!! I can’t wait to read them!

These are both hardbacks (which are the best, mind you), and I just had to show you the beautiful covers!!! Aren’t they pretty?

Well, I hope your Christmas was amazing! Have an awesome day!

Allons-y!

-G. Paige
